I think it was cwathen who told us of Pizza Hut's shallow fry escapades on this board some years ago. The next time I had one all I could taste was the grease. It was like fried bread.

I'm a big fan of Dominos myself.

Having never tried Pizza Hut it seems I won't seeing as it's a greasetrap and Domino's tastes akin to tomato sauce on cardboard for me.

"House of Lords Deluxe Barbecue Sauce" - in the bottles it looks like something you should be able to find at Bookers, but I've never seen it anywhere else. Don't know where they get it from, beautiful sauce though.

Indeed, in a nutshell, Pizza Hut stock is delivered frozen and then defrosted at the store, so some of the flavour will allready be lost through this process. Oils containing MSG are used for the production process (so you artificially feel more full than you actually are and thus feel you've got a better deal than you have) and most pizzas are built on premade bases which are then cooked in pans. The end result is that, however good the marketing is, when you buy PIzza Hut you're buying something made with frozen ingredients that is effectively fried in its own grease.

Domino's works with entirely fresh stock which is delivered and stored chilled, not frozen (the only freezer you'll find in a Domino's store is for ice cream) and pizzas are made with hand slapped bases which are cooked on mesh screens to allow much of the oil and grease to drain away during cooking.

It's not that Pizza Hut is particularly bad - they only do what virtually every other pizza shop does. It's just that Domino's is better. You'll also note that Domino's shows off their production process whilst everyone else hides it at the back - because no one else's is anything to be proud of.

Hm, so why is it that Domino's has such terrible bases even though they're made relatively fresh? I mean, I seem to be the only person who dislikes Domino's but it just doesn't seem all that great to my dumb tastebuds.

I'm not sure. Maybe your tastebuds are dumb.

I like their bases.

The thick base isn't all that great sometimes. Two thin ones sandwiched together into the Double Decadence, however, is heaven...

I'll agree with that sentiment but then again I last had one in 2006 and threw away most of it because it was on par with the four times reheated crap from your local takeaway so they may have changed drastically since.

BBQ sauce was nice on my wedges though.

On a too-regular basis, yeah perhaps.

As a treat, I maintain - heaven... :P

i had dominos tonight after my tesco ready meal leaked everywhere and I had to return it.

Oddly, the large BBQ is the same price as the small BBQ, so i got the large, ate half, put the rest of the dip in the fridge and will reheat the other half for lunch tomorrow. yum yum.

I always find Pizza Hut leaves me with terrible indigestion either a few hours or the morning after I've had one. When I was down in Bradford at t'theatre, PH was the only place I could stop before running to the train so I grabbed a Margherita then ate it on the journey home, and ended up with terrible stomach ache.

Domino's always used to be the bane of our lives backstage. We used to hate the little stage crew gits who would get a Dominos then take it into the green room and stink the place up. We always got our own back though because they then got blamed for leaving cheese running up the walls. (SteveL can probably verify that...)

Still guilty pleasures and all that. What is the consensus on Papa John's??

Tsk @ you. Remember, lovvey, without the technicians there is no show. Never try to get your own back as they have the ability to leave you on stage waiting for a blackout that may never come ;)

I liked them when I stayed at mum's house in Florida - but I can't get over the name said with a Scottish accent.
