Two points regarding said store.

1) The name is crap. Why Zavvi? It makes no sense.
2) Are they cost-cutting at the moment? I know the Edinburgh Princes St store seems to have been vacated as well as some others around the country.

Bring back Virgin Megastore. Although even that was never as good as HMV.

I just don't understand the point of buying things there. I was wandering through it the other day and noticed they were still selling Halo 3, a year after release, for £50. Bizarre.

There's never been any explanation for the name. Just one of those marketing inventions that would look and sound different from Virgin. Similar to the Diageo concept, perhaps.

I don't understand why such stores still operate in large numbers though. It's far easier (and cheaper) to buy off the internet. Why hunt round a store for something that will either be 'out of stock', 'coming soon' or at an inflated price?

I don't know why they called it Zavvi in the first place, we still call it Virgin Megastores, which weren't much cheaper either. They used to be all over the country at one point, but alot of them disappeared and they only seem to be in cities. If you look hard enough there is the odd bargain or two, especially when the sales on.

What I like about them is that all the prices are rounded to the pound, so none of this '£1.99' crap leaving you with useless 1p change.

I do miss Virgin though. I think the one in Tottenham Court Road has even got rid of the old 80s arcade machines they used to have on the ground floor, which sucks.

I'd still rather have £8.99 come off my debit card charged to somewhere in the Channel Islands for a DVD rather than £15.00 at Zavvi in town!

Who pays in cash anyway, except when buying a newspaper in the morning?

It's less easy to get carried away if you're carrying cash, especially in pubs.

The same ploy netted Marks & Sparks something like £200,000,000 the first year they rounded up their prices.

You may like the prices simple, but I'd rather have the penny all the same.

Watch the pennies..., etc.

And as for "who pays by cash anyway, except when buying a newspaper?" - I do.

So are you one of those people who faffs about with a card to pay for three quid worth of groceries? That'll be me in the queue behind glaring at you.

The only thing marginally worse are women who don't think to get their bloody purse out of their handbag, and then go rummaging for their Visa after their sale has been rung up.

Too true Gavin. What makes it even worse where I live is that there's a cashpoint ACROSS THE ROAD from the shop. I mean seriously, it doesn't take that much effort to cross the road and withdraw money.
