Ugh, the taste of olympics 2012s opening was cringe worthy.

Multicultural yobs and community workers dancing around a London bus, with one guy on a wheelchair.

To put it bluntly, it will be like the bbc one dancers on steroids.

Yes. That is DEFINITELY what the entire olympics will be like.

Thankyou for your insightful and thoughtful post.

To be fair, they have managed to redeem themselves slightly by creating a Union Flag 2012 logo. I hope they finally adopt it across the board because it's ten times better than that horrible, flat neon pink one.

However, the London bus didn't look like a proper bus, Leona's dress was shit, David Beckham did nothing, and the Top of the Pops theme tune? I know it's a real song, but most people think of it as a TV theme tune now and it came across a bit naff.

I hope things improve by 2012 and the opening ceremony doesn't turn into something approximating to a tacky street carnival, otherwise I'm going to leave this embarassing country for good. I know it sounds daft, but that seriously would be the final straw. :(

You'd leave the country you live in if they don't do an olympic opening ceremony that's to your taste.
It doesn't just sound daft.

The London bit of the closing ceremony wasn't the most fantastic thing I've ever seen, but given the logistics in terms of getting props and people to the other side of the world, what can you do that's going to look good against what the Chinese can do in the centre of their own city?

On the other hand.

This London 2012 party. They've been getting this set up for over a week now, I was in central London last Sunday afternoon and the Mall was already closed off.

I didn't realise the whole thing was being paid for by Visa (think of the interest we'll be paying if this is how the UK is funding the Olympics). The tacky obvious sponsorship of this event is horrible. With Claudia Winklemand and Matt Baker. Are they the best we can do?

"Everyone's here! McFly, Sophie Ellis Bextor and the cast of We Will Rock You".

Sounds like the line up for a regional Children in Need OB.

Hmm that would be an amazing line up for BBC East. I can't remember who they have pulled out in previous years, but don't think any were memorable.

S Club 7 one year, but they pulled out at the last minute, leaving many people very annoyed.
