Happy Fifth Birthday to Metropol :D

As a special treat we've gone back to the old look, this might be difficult but really, its the same site. Infact as a wise man once said...

Ooooh, remember that empty footer?

No? Well scroll down to the bottom and look.

Ah, for the quieter, more purple days of yore...

Yup, they weren't all that fab after all.

It was only yesterday that I was looking on web.archive.org to remember what the original look was like - couldn't find it there, but the thought was there!

Thought I'd turn up to celebrate, but I'm noticing a severe lack of party rings and iced gems.

oh and I notice in the last five years one thing has remained constant. Internet Explorer still manages to break perfectly sensible HTML. TSK.

Here's an idea. I believe it was mentioned previously that all of the main Metropol 'looks' of past are still sitting around on the server and the administration can choose to view any of them at will.

Why not just act the way of many other bulletin boards and provide different skins which users can choose themselves? The option is their in our account setup, we just never have more than 1 to choose from.

Thus those who love the purpleness, the blue hue, the red highlights or even those special people who prefer to click 'Please Respond' rather than 'Reply' would have the option of choosing to view the site that way.

Jesus, five already! I can remember the big launch, even though I wasn't a member back then. Makes me feel old! :P

May I also say that I much prefer this look, can we keep it? Please?

I'll buy everyone a drink.

actually that would be quite difficult. those looks were designed for phpbb2 which had a completely different templating system than phpbb3, to get this look working I've been hacking away at the skin for a month. it was actually quite difficult to get it this close and its far from pixel perfect.

secondly, there are parts of the new skin that are done in the language files and therefore look odd when you change skin (this is actually a completely different installation of phpbb).

so basically to do that would involve me having to go and fanny around for months recoding the skins for the new software, and taking into account the troubles I've had with this one (which is the closest to the default phpbb skin, i dread to think how long others would take)

Personally I don't like the idea anyway and prefer everyone having the same skin. Boring? Maybe.

Hahaha.

Unless this is not temporary, in which case that is just sick.
