With Phil modding i'll ban myself for 2 weeks after midnight just to save him the aggro of pressing the Lorns banned button.

I'd never ban you!

Only because I can't figure out how to, though.

Oh Hyma is so sweet he must've hidden that button from you. To be fair i couldn't think of a better deputy mod than you. Except for Ands of course.

I'm far too corrupt. Thankyouverymuch.

Anyway, to Tesco. I am a cheapskate with my orange juice and noticed that their Tesco own make stuff had a 'best seller' logo next to the price on the shelf, and now it has something like 'demand at capacity'. I've taken to reading most things as a coded warning to lower expectations (not least BOGOFs meaning something's about to go up in price and they're trying to disguise it) so does anyone know what this cryptic thing means?

Yes, it means they're about to run out of it and there's no more in the warehouse out the back, so expect a bare shelf next time you go in.

It happens to the Finest Cotes du Rhone all the time.

If you really like the particular product, then buy twice as much as you need, thus ensuring that demand instantly exceeds capacity.

Ah right, I was expecting something more sinister like a price rise or rebrand.

I was under the impression that price rises were done by discontinuing the product and then reintroducing it as *new* at a higher price.

God, no.

We just drop the priced of the items either side by a penny or two, and then the 20, 30 or 50p increases on those other products don't even get noticed.

Much.

The Cotes du Rhone price emulates the notorious whore's drawers, so it's difficult to tell.

The only time it's actually 'new' is when the year on the label changes and they normally discount it for the first few weeks in case people don't want to try the new vintage.

so why do random items have "discontinued" price tickets on them some weeks which then vanish after a while when the product in question is something that would blatantly NOT be discontinued? cherry tomatoes for example.

We have a commercial team that delights in causing stores as much hassle as they can - or that's what it seems. They 'accidently' delist lines which causes the 'Discontinued' labels to appear a couple of days later. They realise their 'mistake' and reinstate them so they never go off sale, but it can take ages for the systems to send out an updated label to reprint that removes the Discontinued indicator.

Sales to Capacity is an indicator to staff that means that it's a key line to our customers and there isn't enough shelf space to hold the stock on sale and should be filled more frequently. Similarly, Best Sellers are the top lines in 200 categories and again should always be targeted for filling more frequently.

There, nothing too sinister at all!
