They've just opened a Primark in Basingstoke. Apparently it's one of the largest 25 stores in the UK (it replaced the Allders store that shut three years previously. It's a load of crap though, full of chavs and single mothers.

Oh I know, what gives these SCUM the right to buy clothes and ruin our shops. I don't know.
Ronnie is victorious, vivacious in victory like a venomous dog. Vile Republicans cease living while the religious retort with rueful rhetoric. These rank thugs resort to violence and swear revenge.

But Ronnie can punch through steel so they lose anyway.

Last night's Newsnight had a feature on Indian sweat shops and the stuff they produce for some UK High Street stores, off the back of Blood Sweat and T-Shirts. http://www.bbc.co.uk/thread/blood-sweat-tshirts/

The two girls from the BBC THREE series were possibly the least coherent guests Paxo has interviewed in quite some time, though the aim of the piece was still achieved in highlighting how little the people producing the goods are paid and the terrible conditions in which they work (I think). Worth watching on BBC iPlayer - go to Newsnight from the 13th May and go to 19 minutes in.

Of course just because this is in a Primark thread does not mean that Primark's clothes are made by 7 year olds in Indian sweatshops. I do not know where they are made. But they are very cheap.

I couldn't help but think that if each item we bought was £1 more, and that £1 went to the person who made it, that they would be increasing their income by 1000% per item - they get about 10p per garment.

In the extract from Blood Sweat and T-Shirts one of the girls talks to a boy who must be about 8, who left his family to work in the city and was beaten by the man he was working for. He says he doesn't miss his family. It was heartbreaking.

one thing that did annoy me about this show is it seemed to cop out of naming which companies were using the slum factories. it's all very well pointing out that M&S ran the posh factory but if you're not going to name who's running the crap places then it makes it seem a tad pointless.

Ian Hislop said "Pry-mark" on last night's HIGNFY.

Case closed. The Gnome has spoken! ;)

Hey all! Newbie here lol. Yeah, Primark is a crock of shit! Thankfully there are none close by. Tesco and Asda clothes are also crappy, not to mention the ethics of Asda Wal Mart. I do like Sainsbury's clothes though, although the sizes are a bit off, at least they are made in the UK.

I think I know what's going on here.... the complete absence of either Gav or Hyma who under usual circumstances would have blocked him on sight, how TT just waltzed over here and started from nothing, it all means something and I bet it has something to do with an invite and a forum with few restrictions and rabid members. Just sit back and watch the carnage as it were.

To be fair, Tumble hasn't done anything to warrant being banned.

I'm sure that he doesn't have to be malicious in order to be banned, just a great annoyance to the populace. Only thing being a proper troll gets you is a faster ticket out of here, doesn't exactly mean Tumble doesn't happen to fill the same role without the mouthing off.

Yes, but as we've seen that can take months.

Always find primark/pennys quite good for a shirt for going out, only €15 so its not to bad on the bank balance, I wouldnt wear something more than twice out so its handy, although Burtons, Topman, Next and Jack and Jones are great for clothes if myself and my wallet can be bothered, although with a budget of €65 to live on a week (inc food, drink, taxi, clothes etc) its Pennys most of the time, student life eh?
