Yes and No.

There are FAR too many immigrants that cannot or will not speak English or get a job. And then there are the ignorant, money-obsessed white-faced cretins that seem to think they're something VERY special.

Mixed feelings, really.

I'd guess he got £1.88 at some point.

Personally, I'm not too sure - at first glance I thought 'wow' and then 'maybe not'! It's just that the 5p looks odd with no 'blank space', unlike the others in the new design, for the words 'five pence'.

Still, they're on the way to our pockets. What are your thoughts?

Very pretty looking. Just a shame a quid doesn't go far these days. Everyone seems to be feeling the pinch.
The design is good i just hope the coins don't get any smaller.
My fave coin is the old thrupennybit with the port cullis on the back like the penny coin has.

No, I mean didn't I mention the putting them together bit first? But I'm not too bothered of course!

If they hadn't, wouldn't that screw up vending machines? That was Stu's arugment for not putting holes in the currency, anyway. If they are smaller, I damn well expect to see holes!

It doesn't matter. Were having a moan about the traditionalists here who are saying the coins should be hand-stamped by serfs, otherwise they are not valid!

Tu'pence? Who were you talking to? There is no change in the size of coins!

I was joking about the Anglo-Saxon methods at the Royal Mint, not your opinion on the new design.

I think they look stunning. It's a pretty radical and unprecedented step to redesign the whole lot in one go, and give them a unified theme.

I'm just surprised the 1p and 2p were considered worthy of inclusion in the project, as surely it can't be long before they're phased out and all prices end in 5 or 0. It's already that way in most pubs and restaurants.

The halfpenny piece was ditched 24 years ago, so surely 1p must be a lesser monetary value (in real terms) than half a pence was 24 years ago, as inflation has much more than doubled in that time.
