Why thank you! It's the tub of Vaseline on the lens that does it ;)

The Royal Mint (at the orders of our Bilderberg man in No.10) is surreptitiously re-designing British coins and banknotes so that they closely resemble the Euro currency.

Has anyone else noticed the striking similarities between the new £20 note and the Euro £20?

The Euro currency is coming to Britain sooner or later whether we like it or not. Of course as with everything in this country nowadays, the people are never asked what they think. Instead we must all bow down to our half-blind Scottish overlord.

Has nobody mentioned how they form the Coat of Arms thing when put together?

Well, Jamez seems to have completely failed to notice that very British (and I think rather clever) touch.

I feel suitably shameful. I hadn't noticed either

I take back my Euro comparison...and head off to sing the National Anthem from the mountain tops by way of a penance.

A cunning design indeed. I likes it.

This was a competition open to the public - as well as professionals. Be thankful it wasn't open only to Blue Peter viewers...

We've never been asked about the design of coins before. We can't have a referendum on who governs us in this part of the country, why should we on coinage design? Are you now an anglophile Jamez since moving?

Andrew, is that because your submission was under the name of 'Sox'?

Well done Rod for spotting that the designs actually form the whole shield. Something I would hopefully have realised when I received my £9.99 set in the post which I ordered after seeing them on screen. I have a set of the new decimal coins left to me by my grandmother, I'm sure they will make a nice set together.

Rod?

Anyway, some more pics for those interested: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7327144.stm

Does the winner just win the design on all British coins? Obviosuy that's quite a prize but I mean is there anything else?
