I do quite like Top Gear, but its in danger of becoming too self-indulgent. Not difficult to see why - its become a bit of a phenomena.
As of tonight: BBC 6 o clock news (although the whole Maddie madness put me off TV news generally).
Since 6:15 I've been treated to soundbites of ignorant xenophobes with no attempt at analysis or balance, followed by a non-story that started out being about smily faces obscuring those of children on a school's website and then morphed suddenly into a list absolutely irrelevant statistics about the number of arrests over indecent images of children. Oh, and the headline about "thousands of workers being required to have ID cards" seems to be designed solely to keep you watching than actually tell you anything. It's easy to say WHO is actually affected within the headline.
Gah. Poor. Awful.
And I hate George Alagiah but that's a separate issue.
Luke: That sounds oddly similar to a Charlie Brooker rant earlier in the year

Coz you got 2 c wot da celebz fink bout em and that.Sput wrote:On another note, I saw an advert on C4 a couple of weeks ago for a show called Rude Tube. This seems like the ultimate example of TV bosses just not understanding the web video thing at all. Why would anyone want to watch a selection of Youtube clips chosen by someone else at a fixed time in the week, on their TELLY rather than just go on Youtube and watch stuff of their choosing whenever they want?

Anything Australian, and Sport. I hate Sport - and I hate Australian produce. Hollyoaks, Eastenders. I think those are my main objections.
Don't know if anybody saw That Mitchell and Webb Look a couple of episodes back (which I like!), where Mitchell was doing the spoof about "Sky Sports 4: Watch the Football." He was basically being this hysterical Sports presenter going around a pitch saying all the games that were going to be broadcast in March. He said something that really stuck in my mind.
"It will never finally be decided who has won the football."
So - if all these competitions will all be continually going on with no end in sight - what is the point in watching? Yay, your team won, they'll lose again in the next game, or if not that, they will have to lose some time - so spare yourself the disappointment and just don't watch!! It is just a load of grown men chasing a football, after all!

I promise you that there is more to Australian television than blonde twentysomethings attempting to look enigmatic, blustering pensioners, and the high rising terminal.Connor Sephton wrote:Anything Australian, and Sport.
