Connected my Nokia phone to the PC last night to start deleting off an accumulation of text messages and pictures and tings. Having a facility to have hundreds of things stored encourages my laziness, so its a bit of housekeeping I've been putting off. Surely, then, my phone would run faster and be more nimble to operate.
Whilst doing this I see a large shiny icon telling me to click and update my phone's firmware which would take me from version 1.0.something to 2.3.something. It'll be even faster if I do that, thought I.
I had it set to not sync up with Outlook (for reasons that escape me), and clicked past the warnings and set it off updating.
The result is, effectively, a factory reset. Absolutely everything is gone. Numbers, dates - everything.
I went to run a back-up from the PC software only to discover that I last did a complete one in May 2007, so I haven't got anything from before that point, including numbers of friends and gentlemen callers I've met in that time. I'm not saying I'm slutty but that did total more men than are named and/or numbered in the bible. Old and New Testaments.
Ok I'm exaggerating about the nookie, but all my ex-colleagues numbers from my short-lived career at an architects firm have been lost.
I'm feeling very grim now. Incidentally, I see no particular benefit from the firmware update itself.
Anyone who has my number could be a sweetheart and fire off a message (with your name at the foot of it) and I'll begin the process of restoring the last 6 or 7 months.
I feel like Fry in Futurama, waking up after being cryogenically frozen for a thousand years - although admittedly its more like I stumbled into a 3 star chest freezer.
Back up your data folks, or when someone texts asking if you're free to meet again you won't know whether they were rubbish or awesome.
I have done something very stupid

Not much use to you now i know but i've got one of those little sim card back up contraptions. It only stores names and numbers though. Handy little thing, not sure where i've put it though.
Mental anxiety, Mental breakdowns, Menstrual cramps, Menopause... Did you ever notice how all our problems begin with Men?
