I think what's really important is that, in time, you'll come to realise that the colleagues and friends you are making in your career are unlikely to think less of you because of the heady, halcyon days of your youth. We've all been there. In ten years, when you're watching the newly appointed nervous graduates start their jobs, you'll be able to think back and smile.
During the meantime if you'd rather draw a veil over the fun or silly things you might have done in the past then that's fine, too.
You are absolutely spot on, Gavin. I do, believe it or not, feel sorry for some politicians, and people in similar careers. Most of us, and I for one, have done some incredible things in my past that, on their own, would not make themselves look good.
It is a sad fact, but people who have worked hard to build up strong careers, have it snatched from beneath their feet over something they did years ago.
Unfortunately, as this is the world we now live in, I'm having to be cautious, more so than I was several years back!
This does raise an interesting point about social networking sites, and just how much information people are putting about themselves into the ether.
This article in the Guardian last week shows just one way people can be "spyed" upon.
It is a sad fact, but people who have worked hard to build up strong careers, have it snatched from beneath their feet over something they did years ago.
