I know this is a fairly inane topic but this has been bugging me...
Will 2010 be called "Two thousand ten" or "Twenty ten"?

I read the thread title as "twenty ten", so that's what I'll call it.
Twenty Ten for me as well.
I blame the media.
Up until about 1998, I assumed that everyone would call the proceeding years after 2000 "Twenty-Oh-One, Twenty-Oh-Two" etc.
This "Two-thousand-and-xxx" way of pronouncing the years annoys me because it takes longer to say. However, the worst way is how the Americans pronounce it: "Two-thousand seven". Unless I'm mistaken, that would make the current year 20007.
On the radio, there are guidelines on how to pronounce numerals correctly.
The year MUST be pronounced as: "Two-thousand-and-xxx" until the year 2010 when it becomes "Twenty-ten". I prefer the "Twenty-oh-xxx" pronunciation.
When saying a phone number, you MUST say 'oh' instead of 'zero'. That makes sense.

Is it slower? For 200x (e.g. 2007), both are five syllables:Jamez wrote:This "Two-thousand-and-xxx" way of pronouncing the years annoys me because it takes longer to say
{Twen}-{Ty}-{Oh}-{Sev}-{En} (5)
{Two}-{Thou}-{Sand}-{Sev}-{En} (5)
Should be identical, no?

So does that mean we're currently on T7?
Or is that T&7?
Or, perhaps T & biscuits?
