Memory Card Problems

I've just got a 4gb memory card for my Nokia N73. I put it in and suddenly the phone starts working slowly and starts freezing alot of the time. I decided to format the card when I get a progress bar with "Formatting memory card" above it. The bar makes fuck all progress. I stopped it and went to try again when it pops up syaing the card has been corrupted (no shit sherlock) and asked me to format it again. Yet again, no progress made. I took the card out and formatted it on my PC, successfully. I went to put the card back into the phone, and still pops up saying the card is corrupt and must be formatted - no progress is being made still!

Can somebody please explain what's causing all of this kerfuffle and how I could solve it?

Thanks.

Try rebooting the phone and formatting the card again.
