they're the standards body who come up how HTML *should* work, although they're gormless and forget to include basic things such as easy vertical alignment and otherwise busy themselves coming up with pointless drivvel languages that will never be used.

I'm one for coding by hand too, although I use dreamweaver so it can do half the typing for me. My tidyness streak applies to HTML too, I can't *stand* it if I don't know exactly how it all is ordered and working.

This is something I've always wanted to know: You can center things horizontally on a page with the <center> tag, but how can you reliably center the page vertically?

Well, you can vertically align stuff inside a table with valign="middle" attribute. At least, that's what I use.

Did you wake up in the skip after a "Hellfire-style" night on the booze; or is income for students in Dundee so lean at this time of year that you have resorted to rummaging skips?

(I bet the button marked "delete user" will be pressed for that one!)
