The lockings weren't done by me, I was offline just before Tumble Towers (or 'TT' as I'll call him for pointlessness) started posting. Amazingly or not Asa, itsrobert, and Isonstine also have access to the padlocks.Alexia wrote:Ah....so THAT explains Mr Wells' sluggishness.

Others may feel TT needs to abbreviate him and then stick and 'i' between the abbreviation. He certainly doesn't do himself any favours by renaming BBC channels B1, B2. B3 etc..

What's wrong with me assigning codes to the channels? Here are the eight BBC TV Channels.Charlie Wells wrote:Others may feel TT needs to abbreviate him and then stick and 'i' between the abbreviation. He certainly doesn't do himself any favours by renaming BBC channels B1, B2. B3 etc..
B1 = BBC1
B2 = BBC2
B3 = BBC3
B4 = BBC4
B5 = CBBC Channel
B6 = CBeebies
B7 = BBC News 24
B8 = BBC Parliament

As you are probably aware, on TV Forum and on Metropol, I've a habit of putting a TV channel name followed by its code in brackets, e.g. BBC One (B1). The reason for this habit, which others seem to disapprove of, is to encourage others to use the codes, in order that they will catch on. How else are the codes meant to catch on if I just keep them to myself.
If you click the said link, you'll also see the following code on my list in the Sky section:
SSN = Sky Sports News (Sky 405)
Whilst I was browsing the Sky News thread in The Newsroom yesterday evening, I noticed that Sky Sports News also gets a mention on that thread. I noticed one user (NOT me!) on there refer to Sky Sports News as SSN in one post. At least that's one of my codes that has started to be used by someone else. I wish they'd all become part of general use. Face it, those codes are handy when texting on a mobile, are they not? What's the easiest of the following to type:
BBC One, BBC1 or B1
BBC Three, BBC3 or B3
CBeebies or B6
BBC News 24 or B7
Sky Sports News or SSN
In all cases, I think the code (2 or 3 characters).

But why, why on this earth would you want to do that. See if you can work this one out ...

SSN is an acronym which takes the initial letters of the name 'Sky Sports News', and is a simple, logical phrase which nobody takes notices.
Your BS system however takes the initial letter of the network, some crap number which you've randomly chosen, and is illogical, complicated and gets in the way.
And as Jugalug said in one of those threads, why do you constantly feel the need to set up threads, Blackpool Tower? Or should I call you Benjamin F Shatliff?

as milky joe states on DS1
you really are an arse TT4C = Channel 4 (but generally shorened to C4)
4E = E4
You CANNOT be serious Actually LOL! Shortened?! They're exactly the same length! But reversed for extra fun confusion!

Tumble Tower, I am very interested in your idea of shortening channel names. This is very useful as I am always texting channel names to friends. I live in the Anglia region (AR) and I am creating a new internet TV channel called "Anglia Region Sports Entertainment" - could you please provide me with a 4-letter code for it?Tumble Tower wrote:To see my complete list of channels and their codes, please click here.
