perhaps I am being obtuse here, but isn't "music for the deaf" something of a lost cause, a little like signing on BBC specifically for the blind?
As people have pointed out, there any many ways that music and rhythm can enhance the life of deaf people. And don't forget that 'deafness' can actually cover quite a range of hearing loss from total to a fair bit less.
My sister runs a charity, no one has sponsored her for an OBE, MBE etc and she works tirelessly 18 hours a day. Maybe I will sponsor her myself if I thought she could even get the time off to go and collect it.
I'm not exactly sure how someone gets put forward for an OBE etc, but I certainly feel that anyone who works that tirelessly for a charity supporting others should be eligible.
