Hi, anyone using Audition and Vista? I am and whenever I try starting it up I get a weird error message; "Adobe Audition could not find a supported audio device. Please check your device settings".
What on earth is going on! Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Vista + Adobe Audition
Well I've downgraded to 1.5, which, ironically, works on Vista. It's to do with this ASIO hassle... what exactly is ASIO and what does it do apart from make your life miserable with its endless problems!!!!
PS if you would like it I found Audition1.5 at http://www.download.com/Adobe-Audition/ ... 24430.html

I had to downgrade to 1.5 as well - I guess no-one has mustered up a working ASIO driver for Vista yet, unless newer releases of DirectX are meant to take on its functionality, which will undoubtedly cause a raining tirade of incompatibility shit.
Is this where I can interject to point and laugh at you poor (not in the fiscal sense!) saps for upgrading to Vista?
I'm still on XP for both my desktop studio computer and laptop. When I do upgrade (probably in the autumn), I'll be going to that company with the half-eaten fruit as its logo.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one affected by this. I'm finding the 1.5 version fine for the time being EXCEPT I can't open up any CES sessions made in 2.0!!! It really is quite ridiculous; why don't they make these things backwards compatible.lukey wrote:I had to downgrade to 1.5 as well - I guess no-one has mustered up a working ASIO driver for Vista yet, unless newer releases of DirectX are meant to take on its functionality, which will undoubtedly cause a raining tirade of incompatibility shit.
Ah well... life's too short, and Vista's too nice to force me to downgrade Windows rather than Audition!
@Nodnirg.... I got exactly the same error [line in] even when I was using it on XP, and I just briefly swore at this whole ASIO crap under my breath whilst clicking OK... but I suppose I brought this all on myself by using a professional editing application like Audition on a laptop! Also when I fired up Audition2, I briefly got a message telling me that I could kiss my Aero interface goodbye while it was running... that would not have been such a big deal though, I don't really much mind about the Aero interface.
I'm annoyed that Adobe haven't provided a way to use DirectSound instead of ASIO. It should be POSSIBLE, even if nobody uses it, to use the older standard; for legacy reasons if nothing else. Just like in Excel, you can create a dialog box either by going Insert Sheet and choosing MS Excel5 Dialog, or by using the Form Editor in Visual Basic.
At the risk of turning this thread into a windows vista thread, has anyone else noticed the FREQUENCY with which the User Account Control dialog pops up on Vista machines? even the most basic of operations seem to require it. I think it should only pop up for unsigned apps, those signed by MS Corp should be approved there and then. The trouble with these dialogs is, becuase they appear so often, people are not alarmed by them and hence click Continue without thinking, whenever they pop up without thinking about them. So, when a virus tries to attack their system files, they'll get a dialog, think "oh it's one of those" and hit Continue.
Also I'd have thought if ASIO was the problem, then ASIO4all (that asio emulator you can download) should solve the problem. I really don't understand ASIO, what it is or what the point of it is, which is probably part of the problem.
EDIT: Right, now this is getting ridiculous.... since when is Alt+R a shortcut key for PLAY, and not for the favourites menu as the Accelerator Key would indicate! Same goes for Alt+E and Alt+W. This is just plain irritating. OK, it's in the shortcuts list, but why!?

Allo - there were two problems I encountered. One was a fairly cryptic error along the lines of "Audition has encountered an unknown error. Restart Audition." - the only way to get it working was to play around with some combination of audio device settings (but I can't remember what). Another was a specific recurring ASIO error, but again, I helpfully can't remember what it was for. I don't believe it was the exact same error as you've been getting though.cdd wrote:Hey "lukey" was your error message identical to mine, or were you just saying you had trouble with it on Vista too? Would be interesting to know if the problem is due to me f***ing up the sound card drivers or something.
Haven't had any such problems with AA 1.5 (other than the lack of back-compatibility, as you said).
Looks like I'll just have to wait patiently for Adobe to support Vista... in spite of all my moaning about it I do actually really like Vista, it's so sleek and it's the first time where everything feels - "integrated", unlike XP where it feels all very blocky. It's hard to describe it any better than that, but comparing XP and Vista is like comparing XP and Mac OSX... the latter feels as though everything is a part of somtehing else. I'm sure transparency adds to that impression.
BTW... Any of you audition fans know of a way to export 2.0 sessions with backwards compatibility, assuming I still have access to an XP machine with Audition2 installed? There are some projects I'd like to access...

Solved it!
For anyone in exactly my situation here's what I did to get it working:
1. Uninstall Audition2
2. Uninstall audio drivers.
3. Install Audition2
4. Reboot Computer.
5. Run Audition2
6. Once open (nothing will play but the app will launch), keep Audition2 running in b.g. and install audio drivers.
7. From there go into Audio Hardware Setup; Control Panel then OK to refresh the list
8. Select your proper output
Voila!!!
In future Audition will just start, you don't have to go through Steps 1-8 again. Also just to emphasise it's runnning in Vista.
Yay!
