True. But it was the only bloody shop in the Oaks that sold it.

I've gone off Vista now.
It looks nice, but you're lucky if you can get anything to run on it at this time.

Actual examples:

Norton Internet Security - no go. A 90 day trial thing is available as a download from Microsoft, but is still painfully slow to do anything.

Panda Platinum - doesn't want to know. Panda only offer antivirus, not internet security.

Office 2003 apparently doesn't work either. Strangely, Office XP does.

Nero 6 doesn't like it. Neither does Nero 7 (despite what it says on Nero's site).

Amount of boards and what not that don't have Vista drivers is vast. My Wireless card also doesn't work in Vista. Also the amount of hardware that's been and gone between XP SP2 and Vista that isn't recognised straight-off out of the box is scary as it means having to hunt for more drivers.

I'm giving it to the end of the year before I seriously consider using it.

Apparently the team who worked on Office 2007 are going to be doing the architecture of the next version of Windows, so it might be quite surprising and pleasing to see what will happen.

I'm now lost in XP, i adore Vista

However winamp doesn't like it, to update the media library requires running in administrator mode and it's generally a bit of an arse. Hopefully winamp6 will appear soon

Apparently the model of my graphics card doesn't support the Aero interface yet. How does Vista look without it?

I would upgrade my graphics card but it's a laptop so it's not so easy.

Virtually the same. You just won't get the fancy window-swapping effect that everybody wants.

Aero and Flip 3D aren't as fun or as cool as what you think. It took me a while to even realize Aero was on! Only when you pay attention when moving the window around you can see it. Flip 3D is just awkward. A tricky combination of Ctrl+Windows Key+Tab is just timewasting compated to a simple Ctrl+Tab. Ctrl+Tab does have a nice little preview window though.

it works with the windows key and tab combination too, but i agree, it's pretty useless, but then i don't tend to have loads of windows open and applications running.

Is there no Exposé-like capability to display all windows at once in 2D?

I think that the lack of glass applications at the moment makes aero less appealing. It'll seem fabber in time (look at WMP for example, the player controls look ace).

I use alt tab when using the keyboard, however I like using Flip by clicking the icon in the quicklaunch bar and then using the mouse.

I've looked around

Found it at PC World for 149 quid, online 139 quid. Currys is 149 quid, and Gamestation is 119 quid, but I'll think I'll go somewhere that can give me some cover/gaurentee on it, as I doubt Gamestation will.

Oh, also, I've heard another tale today, if I upgrade from XP SP2, I'll be fine. True?
