DVD-RW

A while ago, I (successfully) transferred Sky+'d programmes that I recorded onto Panasonic DVD-RW discs to my PC, by ripping the disc and getting the videos.

I now have a new(ish) Toshiba recorder. My RW discs wouldn't work on the player, but this pack of Verbatim's did. However, my PC now displays the message:

Windows cannot read from this disc. The disc might be corrupt, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows.

I'm now stuck with Panasonic discs that my only my PC reads, and Verbatim's that only my DVD Recorder reads. Can anyone give me a bit of help?

Thanks

The problem is, there is no official standard and its down to whether the lasers are tolerant enough to talk to the different brands of disk, in much the same way most early home hi-fi CD players wouldn't talk to CDs you burnt in the computer. These days they don't give a toss about that as long as it looks like a CD, is laid out like a CD and can play like a CD.

The only real solution you've got is to find some media that both your DVD recorder likes and your computer DVD player likes as well. Computer DVD players tend to be more welcoming than DVD recorders media-wise.

So either way, both discs are buggered for what I want to use them for then?

Effectively.

But you can still use them for the purpose that they now work for. Pointless throwing away a set of discs that work, just not what you want them to do.
