Yes, thats right. When I said that the Republicans were ahead in Virginia, it was only on the last 2/3 precincts the Democrats started to pull it back, they will win it now, so have control of both houses!

How do the Democrats and Republicans relate to our political parties exactly? Would a Conservative prime minister, for example, find more common ground with a Democrat or a Republican?

Republicans are socially and fiscally (apparently) conservative, democrats hate themselves but are somewhere to the left of the republicans - so they're more like labour. Kinda.

I didn't say they found that post tedious. I said they find YOU tedious.

If you want it that simple, Republics (Bush) are more right, Democrats are more left. It's america though, so it's more odd.

Hmm. Surprising that Cameron is getting friendly with John McCain on his website then. I would've thought Cameron as becoming more and more left of his own party.

Yes Republicans are very much like right-wing Conservatives, and Democrats are more like either Liberal Democrats or moderate Labour in this country.

They don't really have the equivalent of a Socialist Party (as in "Old Labour")
