You know at times, it feels like I'm the only decent driver on the road. On my travels today, I noticed several things which really piss me off!
- People slowing down to 30mph for speed cameras on 50mph limit roads
- Cars, usually taxis, suddenly pulling off to a side lane without any sort of indication whatsoever
- People trying to overtake me without realising that my car is stupidly powerful, thus being left looking stupid in the fast lane when I speed up just to spite them
- Driving at the correct speed limit when being followed by a policecar, and then being overtaken by them
- Old people's driving in general
- Lorries overtaking other lorries on motorways, thus clogging up 2 of the 3 lanes
- Metros in the fast lane
- People not indicating at mini-roundabouts, and then beeping when you pull out in front of them, as if you're supposed to have some sort of psychic premonition of where they're sodding going
- Rubber neckers!!! And as a consequence, coming to a standstill on a motorway for what turns out to be nothing at all
Am I turning into a grumpy old man with roadrage, or does anyone agree that all the above is bloody annoying? Please do feel free to add to my list.
Random Irritations Whilst Driving
the 90% of people who automatically don't use the bus lane when the bus lane is only active for part of the day. they all look across in disgust as you undertake them, which of course is slightly dangerous, but then their stupidity leaves me no choice. the problem is magnified at the moment as the bus lanes have been suspended for over 2 years, with big BUS LANE SUSPENDED signs, which again are ignored by the same 90% of people.
i also hate the people who let too many cars into a queue when the cars behind have been waiting a good 10 minutes and the car joining the carriageway has just arrived.
and of course there are the do-gooders who re-write the rules of mini-roundabouts, which in-fact just confuses matters.

People who have no awareness whatsoever of traffic around them, including the two drivers this week who tried to kill me on my motorbike by pulling into the lane I was in.
People on motorbikes who drive like wankers giving those of use who are sensible a bad name.
People who drive wearing hats. They should have their licences taken off them. All of them. Just test that theory yourself.
People who only bring the car out to go to church on a Sunday and seem to think that as they are At Church they can ignore every parking regulation going.

Hmm I can certainly agree to all those - though I tend to find that these lorries only seem to overtake other lorries when going uphill - completely blocking the entire dual carriageway in the process as they struggle along at 50mph.
Other pet hates on the road:
*Cyclists who block up the A52 by using the road rather than the brand new cycle path, that the council spent god knows how much on - just because you're in lycra and have a racing bike it doesn't make you better than the others!
*Other cyclists who ride side by side on narrow country lanes (anyone seeing a pattern here?)
*People using the chevrons, marked off for people turning right, as their personal overtaking lane - I have been beeped at before now for blocking their lane as I wait to turn into my village.

Is it just me, or are lorry drivers getting worse on motorways? Tailgating, middle lane hogging, and generally being aggressive and discourteous to car drivers. Some of them are nothing short of dangerous menaces. If they were driving that way in a kitted up Citroen Saxo VTR they'd be pulled over by the cops enough times to lose their licence, yet the cops seem to take a much softer line on lorries.
And on a trip from the North of England to Dover last month I counted no fewer than 4 instances of Polish registered lorries using the fast lane, which is blatantly illegal. Either they don't know the laws of our roads, or they think they can flout them without fear of prosecution.

I absolutely hate bus drivers. I've been bibbed at for stopping at red lights, bibbed at for stopping in traffic, one driver even got out of his bus and threw verbal abuse at us (with a child in the car too) for quite literally just being stuck in traffic. What are you supposed to do? Fly?
I also hate these young twats who tend to be beside you in the front of the queue at the traffic lights, they rev their engines thinking you're going to race them. They piss off up the road at an ungodly speed only to be held up at another set of traffic lights, and for me to pull up beside them again. This happened again recently, revving their engine at the lights... I laughed all the way up the road when their car stalled as the lights turned green.
Having said that, I also hate the slugs who draw away far to slowly, especially if the lights stay green for only a few seconds.
And while I'm ranting... *doodles*

That's all I think.

one of my all time hates are people who drive too close - almost everyone is doing it nowadays.
where i live in kings lynn, i need to jump on a 1 mile stretch of the a47- i turn right, so i merge onto the sliproad and then move to the right lane.... it's such a short bit of road you can't go any faster that the speedlimit (70) because you have to stop for the roundabout after about 30 seconds at that speed. i get in the right lane early because most people leave it to the last second, causing all sorts of dangerious breaking and over/undertake manouvers.
now, always, just aways there somebody right on my bumper trying to push me a long, what pisses me off is they end up changing lanes because they're going left anyway.
the only thing i've found that works is to drop your speed slowly and hold the horn. i've had to resort to this a couple of times and it's just unnecessary.

How about when a dual carriageway reduces into one lane and everybody queues back in the left hand lane up the dual carriageway
There's 2 camps here, those who join the queue and are annoyed by those flying down the right lane and cutting in at the head of the queue, or those that do the flying and are annoyed that people arn't using the 2 lanes right up to the merge

I agree wholeheartedly with the motorbike gripes. I have seen many morons o motorbikes and much ignorance directed at motorcylists. We all have the same right to be on the road, so we should look out for eachother.marksi wrote:People who have no awareness whatsoever of traffic around them, including the two drivers this week who tried to kill me on my motorbike by pulling into the lane I was in.

Yes! The only people who wear hats in cars are doddery old people who should no longer be allowed at the wheel. Their licenses date back to the days when there were still milkmen who delivered daily on their horse and cart. Or 18-22 year old boys in their mobile discos.
I could add loads more but the only thing that pissed me off today was some geezer on his bike in all the leathers and his 9-11 year old child on the back wearing a crash hemet, shorts, t-shirt and trainers. I had to stop myself having a go at him.
Mental anxiety, Mental breakdowns, Menstrual cramps, Menopause... Did you ever notice how all our problems begin with Men?
If everyone joined the back of the queue then there would be no pausing to let people in at the front/braking to avoid the people who push in at the front and therefore the traffic would move more efficiently.Andrew wrote:How about when a dual carriageway reduces into one lane and everybody queues back in the left hand lane up the dual carriageway

If you're trying to push into the lane I am in, I can assure you, you'll not manage it.

I don't drive, but just down from where I live is a junction that used to cause this particular type of behaviour. They have now moved the lights to sit on the central light opposite the minor road (as opposed to where they are in the diagram) so the problem isn't as bad as it used to be.Lee wrote:![]()
I think the problem occurs because people are confused about how to handle this junction (not my junction as such but everywhere else where this situation occurs). Do you stop because its a red light or do you stop because everybody else travelling that way has stopped? Likewise, there's no solid white line so therefore you don't need to stop but the light is on red. Factor in a big orange box staring at you from somewhere else and no wonder nobody knows what they're supposed to do.
