My old modem works fab! I'm now back on broadband ( lots of electronic mail kisses to you).
Now all i've got to do is work out why i can't read any discs.

Yes I know I was right. ;)

Everytime you re-sign up to broadband, they will send you a new modem each time. You can send back the new modem they send you, and you will get a few quid off your broadband bill (well, PlusNet gave me £7 off when I said I didn't need their modem!)

Can i use the new cables as spares for my old modem?

If you want to keep the new modem they sent you just incase something goes wrong with the one you have now, then sure!

Though the strange thing is, I had a BT Voyager 105 modem and decided to use that on my computer for Tiscali instead of the Sagem one they sent me. But the weird thing was, with the BT modem, I would be disconnected every 10 minutes!

So I installed the modem Tiscali sent me, plugged it in and it's worked fine ever since. If the new modem they sent you is exactly the same modem as you had previously, then there shouldn't be much of a problem.

Oooh! Yes i have another of those voyager 105 thingymabobbies. Exactly the same, my old modem is looking a bit sad these days.

Not to hijack a thread or anything, but since it's on the same lines...

I'm on Blueyonder and have a spare Netgear Wireless ADSL router lying around doing nothing. If I wanted to go over to wireless, could I - in theory - just exchange the Blueyonder modem for the spare Netgear router?

I don't think so. Unless I'm mistaken, cable and ADSL hardware is not compatible.

Unless the Blueyonder modem has an ethernet connection, in which case you could connect it to one of the ports on the router and use it as a bridge (by switching off all the routery bits)

Aha... that's interesting. So wall to modem to router to PC? That didn't occur to me. I'll have a play about.
