Desktop News Alerts

I know about Skinkers, who provide desktop news alerts from BBC News, Sky, Reuters etc, but unfortunately they only work on Windows. Does anyone know any alert systems which work on Mac?

I'm sure there'll be a BBC News Dashboard widget or something similar, which could help.

If anyone does know of any alert type software I'd really appreciate it.
