I use Zen. They are not the cheapest, but they are one of the best, in terms of reliability, speed (depends on exchange contention but if your exchange is uncontended then speeds are superb), support, sales, etc. I am not one the MAXDSL packages, still on 2Mb (uncapped, unshaped) and I'm pleased with it. People who move to Zen tend not to migrate away as the service is that good.

It is really funny when people go for the cheapest ISP around then moan when they don't activate your line / speed is slow / support is crap / keeps going down. If you want good service, pay for it.

According to the poll Telewest/NTL seem to be favourable, and my experience would tend to support that.
The only thing is, my TV/Phone/4Mb service is costing £47 per month now my startup discount rate has lapsed.
Although reliable, I never feel I get close to the download speed I am paying for.
So... I have toyed with the idea of switching to an ADSL service even though that would involve paying a £90 bill from the previous tennants which I have been in dispute with BT over for 5 years.
Unless anyone can think of a superfast non-cable, non-BT line alternative?

You might be able to go with a WLR operator (anyone that says they are going to take over your line is generally WLR or "wholesale line rental" where BT own the line and it goes into their equipment but the operator rents it from BT) as you don't then have an account with BT retail, your account is with the operator. However I don't know about broadband on these lines as the operator may be able to stop you having broadband / only their broadband.
Failing that and you can get Bulldog where you are, they do 8Mb and supply their own line away from BT completely (BT own the line but Bulldog rent it and connect it to their equipment). I believe they are gearing up to do 24Mb soon. I've heard mixed experiences with Bulldog.

Bear in mind that carphone warehouse / talktalk is capped, shaped, poor support, dubious reliability, etc. I wouldn't go on them if you paid me. (and that I live in a village = no talktalk LLU anyway)

I think the poll should have been split up so that Telewest and NTL were separate. Telewest is often praised by its users, and quite rightly so.
NTL are a different story alltogether. I wouldn't touch ANY of their internet services with a bargepole, simply because they're crap. Their QoS is dire and the forced caching doesn't help matters at all, since the proxies seem to cause more problems than they solve and also frequently fall over. Their customer service departments are is fairly dire and billing system, hopeless. Although the sad part of it is you now have to pay to call CS. Those were SOME of the problems which I encountered when I was with them.

Happily with Wanadoo/Orange/Freeserve and have been since 1999.
Very happy with it, having moved to flat-rate in 2000, then upgraded to 512k Broadband in 2003.
Still on 512k and it serves the house just fine.
