out of something like 5.5 million lines on BT ADSL, there is very few bad provisions.

and why did you sign up with tiscali if you're moving back soon? if you went with zen, you could have had trouble-free ADSL, 1 month contract compared to tiscali 12 month contract.

I'm not the only person in my family that wishes to use broadband, moo.

My sister has a laptop, and there is a communal laptop in the living room. Therefore once I have established an ADSL connection here, I can set about setting up a wireless network for my family.

Then, when I move next month, they can continue with their broadband service, while I set up a new one with NTL when I move to my new house in Cardiff.

Now that the quality of my dial-up connection has been seriously degraded and BT now telling me that there is absolutely no fault on my line whatsoever (even though there is), I'm at a loss.

Once I've finished my letter, I'll post it up here.

Just a thought. When I had a dodgy microfilter I got a clicking on my phone line and no sync. Have you tried a different one?

If broadband hasn't been enabled then he shouldn't need to use a microfilter. But it's possible it has been, in which case a microfilter might improve things (though it does sound like a BT wiring fault).

21CN is not about fibre to the home. 21CN is about removing the existing PSTN and replacing it with a IP-capable switch, as well as (I believe) putting DSLAMs on this new network (I think the new switches are capable of DSL too, hence BT are pushing the term "broadband dial-tone" around - DSL being present on the line always). They are umming and aahing and trialing DSLAMs in the cabinet, and that + VDSL2 == fast speeds to all.

The local loop is staying copper, though. I think BT are doing a great job, trying to pro-long the life of their paid-for copper network. It would be unspeakably expensive to give everyone fibre, unless you have that money to give to BT to upgrade us all?

My router informs me that it cannot synchronize with my provider/exchange, leading me to believe that ADSL is NOT enabled on my line, and Tiscali have just sent me an email which is nothing more than lies.

Read my original post in this thread again (Page 1) and isolate the entire system. Use any standard dial-up modem lead from the router to the hidden connector on the master socket. If the router cannot connect even with the extensions disconnected (which is what happens when you take the bottom of the plate off) from the master socket, call BT out for some tests and the guy should be able to isolate whether the fault actually is on your side of the master socket or their side of the socket.

Beg, borrow or steal some more microfilters to eliminate everything. Also, this can be caused by failing to plug a filter into an ADSL enabled line - common causes include Sky Digiboxes, fax machines and telephones on extensions - all need to be filtered. All devices need to connect in some way, shape or form onto the Phone side of the filter so splitters may be needed. Disconnect the Sky Digibox if you have one and you've had it more than 12 months, as these things are known to interfere with ADSL.

I've examined the internal wiring of my house, and this is what I found. I questioned my mother about who has possibly fiddled around with the wiring, and she said my father used to endlessly mess around with the wiring (which apprently is illegal!).

I reckon if I connect the black cable coming into my house directly into the Master socket, it should work. What do you reckon?
