When is the Easter holidays for schools this year?
In my day they were a week either side of Easter weekend, but looking at the GMTV and CBBC schedules its 2 weeks before Easter with schools going back on Tuesday 18th.
I was looking forward to my journey to work taking 10 mins less than usual as it does when the schools are out

Round here, they finished yesterday (Friday 7th) and go back the day after Easter Monday (Tuesday 18th).
That's partly because Easter is so late this year and partly because we're in the process of moving to six "mini-terms" per year.

I finished for the holidays on Friday, 31 March. I go back on Tuesday, 18 April.Andrew wrote:When is the Easter holidays for schools this year?

Locally, I know of schools that have already been off a week and return on Tues 18th.
And schools that finished on Friday and return on Mon 24th.
And schools that don't finish till this Weds and return on Weds 26th/Thurs 27th.
Take your pick.

My local council website says that here the holidays are next week and the week after.
I note that CBBC Two goes back to normal on Tuesday 18th April so I was thinking maybe it was a London thing and that they were assuming it was happening across the whole country

I don't think London is safe to assume anything at the moment.
Some counties are still on the old fashioned system of three terms, three long holidays and three short half-term holidays; whilst others are on this transitional system of six "mini-terms", five two week holidays, with the rest of the holiday period dumped into the summer.
Perhaps our education correspondent, Mr Green, could let us know what proportions are currently on what?

At CBBC they certainly don't go on what "London" are doing and *assume* that the rest of the country is the same.Andrew wrote:I note that CBBC Two goes back to normal on Tuesday 18th April so I was thinking maybe it was a London thing and that they were assuming it was happening across the whole country
There's a well known phrase:
"Assume" makes an *ass* of *u* and *me*

LOVE that one; I'm putting it in my library.Aston wrote:"Assume" makes an *ass* of *u* and *me*
Nearly as good as "expert", "ex" as in one who is past it, and "spurt" a drip under pressure!
