Dixons to rebrand

I think the .digital tag will only be around until the punters start to think of Currys for electronics rather than white goods.

I've always considered Currys/Dixons/PC World to be the same, so avoided them all at all costs.

In fact, to that end I went to a small independant PC shop in Edinburgh to buy a video card on Saturday. I was horrified to find the tie wearing salesman was as ignorant and patronising as one from the largers stores.

I very nearly bought a new P4 processor, but he made it difficult enough for me to get to look at the video cards he had available, so I changed my mind and will buy one online.

actually i quite dislike going into smaller shops like that. there is an electronics store in our town which used to be a tandy (remember them?) which is kinda like a cpc or maplin catalog with loads of electronics and gadgets (although stupidly expensive), but as soon as you walk in there to have a browse somebody jumps on you and asks if they can help you. i really hate that. i just want to be left alone, i really do.

does anybody notice how phones4u are like wolves? i went into a store in peterborough and me and my girlfrend got asked if we needed help by 4 different people in five minutes... we only wanted to see what the new (at the time) d600 looked like!

I always liked Tandy/Radio Shack, but used to object to my name and address being taken for even the smallest transactions. I wouldn't have minded if I'd got a catalogue in the post but I never did. There were two in Edinburgh that I knew of. Crammed to the ceilings with fab stuff.

I'm a great beleiver in the immediate satisfaction of going to a shop and coming home with what you wanted. I was in a mood to spend a lot of money on Saturday, and the thought of ordering online doesn't scratch the itch - although the price is usually better.

For some reason I sing it to myself every time I go into a Dixons. Hmmmm

Anyway, I too am surprised that they've decided to opt for the "Currys" brand - I (and I dare say many others too) associate entertainment electrical gods with Dixons...

I tend to find most mobile phone shops are like that.

In Plymouth, the Dixons shop looks pretty modern to me, the Currys is dire. So wrong decision in my opinion.

There's also 3 Wimpys in Plymouth, including quite a tidy new one in the student area of town. Am I right in thinking you actually use knives and forks in their restaurants still?

Phones4u was added to my "Companies to avoid" list a long time ago, because of their extremely high-pressure sales tactics.

I particularly like how the .digital is in green on a red background, thus ensuring that the 5% of the population who are red/green colourblind can't actually read it. Well done.

I'm red green colour blind- could never read the greenboard at school.
The teacher used a lot of read chalk - was given detention for weeks for being difficult.
Was the same teacher that said I would end up sacking shelves as I was too thick to do anything - oh the joys of small country schools!
