Best broadband provider

I have asked on a number of occasions for them to tell me what my usage was in the last few months (with the intention of reducing the price of the package I was on). They were unable to do so, and the person I last spoke to said that they had no way of measuring it. I did then suggest that the price points were rather silly, and he agreed. He did seem quite clued up on the issue.

If someone knows better...

I wouldn't use that as pure evidence though...

I am now on the 2GB download package. I reckon I've exceeded that by a significant degree (at least double) in the last two months. No one's complained so far.

BT do not, as far as I am aware, have any facility to measure individual usage.

i'm with plus and i'm happy with their service. no slowdowns during peak periods and i've not had a day when i've have not been able to connect.

i was with claranet but decided to move when during the 5pm-10pm peaktime slot it just crawled (plus they wanted extra to up my speed)

i'm really suprised about usage, i use the broadband premier product from plus.net. i think you get a warning over your bandwidth (and possibly other restrictions) if you use more than 120gb in a month for more than 3 months in a row.

the first month i had it i thought'd i'd better watch my usage, since when i was with clara they had no means for me to measure my usage so i had no idea how much i really used, but to my suprise, i hardly use anything. this is my usage so far this month:

F2S for example. I'm on their 8meg (increasing to 24meg down, 2meg up next month) service for £24.99 unlimited up/down per month. And if you sign up referring nodnirgkram now not only do I get a free month, but you will get a vast sense of well-being for having given me that free month. Can you think of a better deal!?

You're in the very small minority who aren't having problems on their LLU connection. Plus, they're going down the pan. They were bought by Pipex a few months back and have been playing with traffic shaping despite claiming not to - lots of people are getting not a lot of speed as a result.

That said, my monthly usage wouldn't be more than 10/15GB - not the level in that letter!

It does however raise a question as to why BT do not provide a facility where you can see what your usage has been.

somebody who uses 150gb a month must have their connection tied up pretty much 24x7, i do wonder what on earth they must be downloading

There's another issue here. This autumn BT will bring out a Freeview/PVR box that will use your BT Broadband connection to deliver downloaded programmes. Clearly that's going to eat into your download allowance.

There are two possibilities behind this. Either they WANT to charge you per GB and they will make more money out of you downloading programmes, or more likely, each bit of BT is thinking entirely independently and there is no joined up thinking going on there at all.

Knowing BT I would suggest there is an element of BOTH going on.

Ah yes, Freedom 2 Surf aren't bad are they. I regularly flout their "limits" and they don't seem to care, which is nice. As soon as they do though, I'll happily migrate.

By the way, you know they have recently been bought out by Pipex? Hopefully the standard of service we are used to won't decline!
