It appears that UCI has been takenover, by the group who owns Odeon, with the UCI name disappearing, which I think is a shame, as I've always had fond memories of UCI, especially with it being more modern than the Odeon, well when we still had an Odeon in Warrington. But I don't think it will be as disastourous as Morrisons/Safeway, considering the fact that Odeon is probably more well known than UCI.
Anyway, here's some more details
Here's a takeover that's been left rather quiet
Apologies, quite similar names.cdd wrote:That's UGC, but the same thing applies. The name ghance is to bring it in to line with Europe.Antz wrote:Yup, the cinema at Fountain Park in Edinburgh has been renamed 'Cineworld'. Not been in it since the change, so can't comment.

No it's not. UGC is the European name, but the cinemas in the UK are no longer part of the UGC group. They were bought by Cineworld, which is a British brand.cdd wrote:That's UGC, but the same thing applies. Have known this for aaaaages (OK so I used to work for UCI and now work for Odeon but hey!). Yes in the next few weeks, all UCIs are changing to Odeons, although a few have been sold off as well. The Empire in Leicester Square, along with a few other sites mainly in areas with both a UCI and an Odeon, have been sold to an Irish cinema chain, the name of which escapes me right now. It's pretty good news I reckon - the Odeon brand is excellent, but a lot of their retail stuff is a bit dated. This merger is bringing together the best of both companies, as they are using Odeon's marketing team and UCI's (excellent) retail team.
Here's hoping they give the website a revamp though, it's very slow and a bit confusing.

is this the infamous website that's so crap it never works - so someone fixed it for them - and he was sued?Fireboy wrote:I assume you mean the Odeon's website - it doesn't load anything but the logo in Camino.all new Phil wrote:
