Windows Logon Problem

I'm using Windows XP pro, and when I go to sign on to my name, it starts saying Loading Your Personal Settings, plays the welcome sound and loads for a while. Then nothing loads and nothing happens. This happens a fair few times and is starting to irritate me.

Anyone know what the cause of this may be?

Sounds like you have too many TSR (terminate, and stay resident) programmes cluttering up your system. Lots of installed programs on your machine?

Not loads, not few. But I have only got about 9GB left on my (40gb)hard drive, but I am planning to get a replacement of about a 250gb one.

I would try restarting until you find it impossible to get on the internet

Unless you've got a huge Music collection, there's no point buying a new HD just to fill it with more bloated software. I manage on a 40gb drive (until I can afford to upgrade to the iMac in a few months), and Mac OSX is HUGE, as is much Mac software. Only leaves about 27GB for Apps (10GB, much of it Macromedia stuff), Music (9GB), and Pictures (1GB). But I still have enough space left.

On Windows programs are smaller, but also tend to linger after being Uninstalled in some way or other. Which means even if you reclaim the space some crap is left behind. I have the advantage of just dropping anything I don't like in the trash. Best to be careful with what you install in the first place.

Corrupt profile most likely.

Reboot, keep pressing F8, choose Safe Mode, go in as Admin, create a new account, reboot and see if you can log into that.
