Megabus.com - Free travel to/from London . . .

This is probably an offer that's a bit too good miss. Low cost inter-city coach firm Megabus.com are currently
offering 100,000 free journeys to and from London, between 12th September - 12th December. The only
catches (There's always at least one!) are that your journey(s) must be booked well in advance, there's
a 50p booking fee (they've always had that) and can only be booked via the website.

I'm planning another visit to London soon, and it'll most likely cost me only 50p to get there and back!

(So, Mr Branson . . . stick that in yer Pendolino pipe and smoke it . . . !)

Well, 11.95 for 7 day advance Manchester-London on Virgin is hardly a rip off. I'd much rather pay a few quid more and get there 7 hours before the bus.

Also, having seen the buses on the A1, they're by no means plush, comfortable coaches. They appear to be standard double-decker buses as you'd see in your local town or city. I can't think of anything worse than sitting in one of those for hours on end.

I believe it varies, those I've seen in Leeds fit that bill, but when I was in Manchester the other week there was a very fancy looking 05 reg double decker coach operating for Megabus just loading up next to the coach station.

They are double decker buses, but kitted out with coach like fixtures and fittings. The vehicles designated for longer
journeys such as Manchester to London (approx 4hrs 30mins) are also quite modern compared with ordinary buses.

Not wanting to seem too much of an anorak, the buses they use are infact from Hong Kong orignally (watch for SARS then), I used to maintain them in Exeter.
Bloody good thou, quicker than the usual double decker, chepaer to run than a fleet of coaches, and on journeys I have been on they would often fill at least 70 seats (about 90 capacity).
The only problem is that on some of them the toilets are a bit cramped and have been known to flood!!
As the subsidary makes more money they are to be replaced with some new coaches

Not much different to the "facilities" on most other coach services then . . . !

Eugh - that reminds me of a particularly nasty journey back from one of the V festivals with a load of pissed up monged up teenagers and a leaking bog.
