Can't say I particularly care for Americans, personally.cwathen wrote:I wonder how many Americans will continue to hold onto the view that 'God' affords them special protection?

It's quite strange really, they've decided to try and clamp down on the looting before trying to deal with the events that are causing the looting. That is to say, sort the barricades out, sort the people out, drain the city as best as possible and then worry about law and order. Seems they're currently doing things in the wrong order.Gavin Scott wrote:I was shocked to read this morning that police have been seen filling their cars with PCs, flat-screen TVs and the like.
I can't disagree with looting food-stores, but to help yourself to Sear's household electricals is beyond the pale.
They should be ashamed of themselves.
I must say, I don't have a problem with looting for food (as this is a basic human instinct anyway and comes under survival of the fittest) but I'm not quite sure why people are actually looting stuff they can't actually use at the moment in those areas. I mean 80% of the bowl city is flooded, no electricity, water and electricity don't mix anyway, getting out of the city is almost impossible at the moment and you can't take the flat screen up to the helicopter with you.
It seems like an awful situation to be in, and yes Marksi, it does look like a 3rd world country.
I can't help but feel this could only happen in a country that allows it's citizens to have guns as a "basic right" and could never imagine it happening over here.
From what I've seen, thousands of people were left behind in a city that had a huge natural disastor. The authorities were slow to move those left behind out, these very same people are now becoming desparate with no access to water, food or electicity. The response of the states Govenor is to send in troops with a "shoot-to-kill" policy.
How rediculous is that? You don't help the people, they get more and more desparate and use whatever weapons they have to survive (surely a basic human instinct?) to try to live.
If these people had been helped to be evacuated in the first place, surely this wouldn't have happened on such a scale?

Feynman: "String theorists do not make predictions, they make excuses."
Oh come on, we all know the Swiss are more civalised than the USA.Corin wrote:Like in Switzerland?Aston wrote:I can't help but feel this could only happen in a country that allows it's citizens to have guns as a "basic right"

I've just noticed with disbelief this button on DigitalSpy...

Why the fuck are we being asked to donate money to the richest country on Earth? With children in Africa dying by the second due to poverty, I really think this is utterly obscene. Co-ordination of the aid effort is the big problem, not lack of money. It just underlines the astounding arrogance and self-importance of the Americans who just need to get up off their fat arses and sort themselves out rather than blubbing like the spoilt kid in the playground expecting everyone to provide for them.
What a bunch of fuckwits.
Serves me right for visiting DS I suppose.

It's funny everyone is praying for help and praising God for saving them. If they really believe then who sent the Hurricane in the first place.Jamez wrote:Satan is punishing the US for being a big fat dirty polluting bully of a nation.
A few more hurricanes, please!
