My CD keeps burning really distorted audio CDs, both with Nero and Media Player.

Does it with different brands of CDR too. Is my drive borked or is the lazer dirty?

Have you checked that there aren't big lines on any of the CDs? If so they might be cracking.

If not, I'd suggest that your CD drive is mental.

CD recorders are dirty cheap now, whenever mines starts working oddly, I buy a new one. I'm on my fourth in about as many years.

Is your copy of Nero one of these "only works with the drive it came with" versions, in particular 5.5.xx.xx?

If so then patching it to the latest 5.5 version will probably break it.

Same thing happened with Nero 4 to me a few years back.

If not already, find somebody with a copy of Nero Express 6 which works on pretty much any CD write you throw at it as opposed to the drive tying that went on before.

But having said that, CD Writers are being virtually given away for nothing now so may be worth just biting the bullet and buying a new one.

Just a thought, the audio you burning isn't one of your demo's is it? If so it's probably playing fine, that just how you really sound.

Thanks Neil.

It is Nero 6. But WMP10 hates it too.

It reads, it writes data CDs, but Audio? Nada.

I may well invest in a USB one as I have a laptop.

Well I don't think it was me who did vocals on "Doctor Pressure", the new mashup from Mylo vs Miami Sound Machine. :)

I had it as my windows start-up music for a while, but it freaked out my mate who thought it was me! Silly cow.

It's going to be the drive.

Invest in an external caddy, which is basically a standard drive in a case that you plug into USB. So then if it falls over again, just swap the drive out.
