Yes its A-Level results day tomorrow, though I'm not going to University this year (I've been unsure all year) I'm finding it quite nervracking, but I wish the best for others who are getting theirs tomorrow.

Though I'm doing myself a favour tomorrow by not going first thing in the morning, as the damn college will be full of the media loving students (if the local press is there) and the really twee smart arse people too.

I always hate the "opening results LIVE" on Breakfast telly. It's so contrived and self loving.

Also it's nice how they don't pick any thick students...only the Grade As - the bog standard two questions are

a) Are you pleased? (To the student...)
b) So does this mean exams are getting easier? (To the viewer)

You could just play out archive footage most of the time...nobody would know.

also something to look out for on the news bulletins are the obligatory shots of good looking teenage girls.

No, no, I think you're mistaken.

It's the A Levels that are getting EASIER, not the students.

What annoys me is the way that in the media they think 'Pass' equals getting an 'A'

For example the main argument about A levels getting easier is that 96.2% of candidates passed. Yet they forget to mention that this percentage includes people getting an E, which is unlikely to be a good result for most universities.

They are then saying how can they differentiate between good students when grade A is the norm, yet only 22.8% of candidates received an A, so nowhere near the norm. It's as if the media are saying 96.2% of students got an A!

The fact that 22% can get a grade originally designed to find the very intelligent completely devalues the marking schemes.

My A Levels, back in 1992, were ridiculously easy then. I refuse to believe that each generation has got so noticeably "smarter" than the last.

Either the tests have got easier, or the marking more generous.
