and guess which is one of the shops... oh yes *Kelso*

The reason competition decreased was because they shut Kwik Save which belonged to the same company. It makes no sense. urgh.

Hinckley gets converted this week.

Can't wait to see how shite it looks.

A new Tesco Extra has opened in Coventry (the former Big W/Homeworld in Walsgrave Triangle) - went into it tonight. Apart from being absoloutely massive it sells, like, everything. Was in the standard Tesco in Rugby too recently, again, it's fantastic.

I refuse to believe that Morrisons can keep doing what they're doing when people like Tesco are storming ahead and reaping the natural benefits!

You mentioned Big W, I noticed that they seem to have scrapped the name and just went for Woolworths recently. It took me a while to work out Big W was part of the group!

Bizarrely, EXACTLY the same thing has happened down here in Cornwall. A Homeworld opened here in 1982, it became a Big W in 2000 after Homeworld closed down, which itself closed down earlier this year and a couple of weeks ago the building reopened as a Tesco Extra.

Here in the land of Nod.. er Norwich, we've only gone half way. Big W at Riverside was changed to Woolworths, but the big orange W sign that kind of greets you as you approach Wollies was changed to a big red W sign. Looks a little like this...

My guess is they done their research for this area and people liked the Big W name, so they tried to keep the big W. Or they just couldn't fit Woolworths on because of the shape of the sign.

MY favourite with Safeway was the big photo and slogan "Magic.. Mushrooms" at the veggies counter..

I saw one on the A1 yesterday evening, albeit with a Morrisons branded cab.

Saw one today whilst I was at work (in Morrisons), the one with all of the fruit on it and the modern Safeway logo.

I agree with a lot of what's been said in this thread so far. Much as I like the Morrisons back home which has been there for years, I always thought Safeway was a better brand and the Safeway near me was a great little store. I'm very surprised they didn't convert all the Morrisons to Safeways instead of the other way around - it would have made much more sense, the Safeway brand was always very fresh.

The Safeway near me was very confusing when Morrisons bought them out. It changed to a Morrisons for just a few weeks, then it changed to a Somerfield. Bizarre! I really thought that Morrisons would take all of this as a chance to modernise their image... but alas, it seems not. Shame, their products are very good, particularly bakery items.
