recently everyone's favourite place to rub shoulders with the peasants and buy german shite have started advertising on BRMB, but it took me a few days to work out that the adverts were actually referring to lidl.

both the male and female voiceovers call it "leeeedle". a friend who was in the car at the time seemed to think "leeedle price" was in fact "legal price" so it cant just be me who finds this confusing.

why are they suddenly pronouncing their name stupidly? please tell me the leeeeedle (think needle with an L instead of the N) is not the obvious way to pronounce their name.

I've head people call it "Lydle", although I pronounce it "Liddle".

I guess it's the old tomayto, tomato thing.

It's the same with Nike - is it "Nike" or "Nike-y"?

It's the same with Linux. Do you pronounce it "lin-ux" or "ly-nux" . . . ?

I've always thought of it as "ly-nux" and I thought Lidl was "li-dil".

FWIW . . . the correct pronuciation of Linux is "lin-ux". At least that's how Linus Torvalds pronounces it!

Having lived in both Germany and Switzerland, I can assure you the locals pronounce the name Leeeeedle.

Lidl is of course the proper pronounciation as I say it that way although as with all supermarkets in this country an invisible S must be added to the word forming Lidls.

As for you Cocks, must you have that dreadful avatar?

So true. The amount of people that I've heard say Greggs's (sic) is annoying!
