I won 5 numbers plus the bonus in the first year of the lottery. I got a paltry £2,500 but was in a syndicate of 5 so it averaged at 500 notes each.
£4M (according to financial advisors) is enough to live in an element of luxury without working for the rest of your life. £5M would therefore be fab.
I'd have a flat, lots of nice things. Not a car cos I don't drive, but I could afford a contract merc and driver as and when required.
It would just be nice to buy things when I wanted.
I wouldn't stay working. Frankly the type of people who win big then do that just make my blood boil.
I work to live, not the other way around.
If you won the lottery...

I'd invest the vast majority of it in safe funds at around 5%, giving me an annual income from interest of £250,000. That way, I'd never need to worry about money again. Nor work again, unless I especially wanted to.

With 5 Million in the bank, wouldn't it be a bit distasteful to take a job somebody else could do?tillyoshea wrote:Nor work again, unless I especially wanted to.
Unless its volunteering of course.

That's the kind of 'work' I meant - going overseas and helping in aid efforts, and the like. The problem being that I would feel really guilty doing that kind of thing, and probably end up giving most of the money away.Gavin Scott wrote:With 5 Million in the bank, wouldn't it be a bit distasteful to take a job somebody else could do?tillyoshea wrote:Nor work again, unless I especially wanted to.

i wouldn't bother with charities either, the amount of money some of them spend on marketing is horrifying.
anyway, i'd give my mum and dad a great big lump sum so they could both retire and i'd keep the rest for myself and g/f (pay of mortagage, car loan etc etc) and run my own business fulltime.

So give some to a charity which doesn't spend loads on marketing - perhaps a local charity. You wouldn't want people thinking you're just coming up with excuses for being selfish now would you?Dr Lobster* wrote:i wouldn't bother with charities either, the amount of money some of them spend on marketing is horrifying.

There have been cases in other countries of people trying to buy every combination of numbers to guarantee winning the jackpot when it's been worth more than the cost of the tickets.
I think this has been when the jackpot has been a guaranteed amount for any winning ticket holder. In this country you'd run the risk of having to share the jackpot, plus logistically it's very difficult to buy 14 million tickets.
