Well, my somewhat highly abrasive comment about "fucking catholics" seems to have spark a stir. Well.. move it here, makes sense.

I goto a Catholic school, as most of you know - and when I first went I kinda figured it really wouldn't be as bad as i know it is now.

What makes me talk about catcholics with such disrespect - is, well, exactly that - on a whole, i have little respect for the catholic religon.

That is only because as a person, I'm not christian, in any way or form. I'm the kinda person thatll have an opinion and stand and be counted. I'm not going to change because because some one says i have to, because they may disagree etc...

Now when an entire school full of politically correct prude teachers tries to put me in a box i dont want to be in, I can't help but get bored in the massively dull RE lessons, hate the way the oldie teachers just carry on - and dont worry, the list is longer then i can be arsed with.

Not to mention I think the whole thing is (in my opinion) a big brain washing scheme anyway. I dont wanna go much further - tbh most of it will be me blowing off steam because I just cant stand the whole enviroment ive had to live in for the past two years - but i still have to look forward to prayers before exams, and "In the name of the son, the father, and the holy spirit" crapola.

I know it all comes across as ignorance, but I just dont like it! They tried to make me some god bothering catholic and thats not who i am! Hopefully, someone will get that...

I dont mind if you wanna be a catholic, just dont shove it down my throat like De Lisle...

I'm not going to get into a debate about the actual religion as I feel that every man has the right to choice thier own path. It may not be right for me, but it might be right for them.

Hmm well I don't think any American model of supposed separation of church and state is worthy of adopting.

Most spheres of state life there are very much infused with christian morality, including education -- and not to mention the billions of their tax payers' money spent propagating it surreptitiously.

I really don't think it's going anywhere.

Because the American schools are being pushed very hard to introduce creationism (Intelligent design in some circles) ahead of Darwinism when it comes to teaching about the origin of the species. Many of them have done, and this is in SCIENCE classes, mind.

As well as the creationism/christian-biased social education Sput mentioned, don't forget who's running the country now and what his personal agenda is.

Hence the massive abstinence policies, anti-abortion/gay marriage investment [pushed from a christian model], ignoring family planning drives, supporting church-based social services, v conservative judiciary etc etc *yawn*. All affect education.

We don't pretend to have a church/state separation, but apart from having christian events as bank holidays and 'god' in the national anthem that no-one sings -- it's not really apparent in my life.

Well, exactly. The irony is that in the US they supposedly have a separation of church and state, yet religion creeps in everywhere. And here in England, Scotland and Wales, where there is an established state church, we're one of the most secular nations on the planet. You can actually pick someone off the street here at random and the chances are that they *won't* be a religious nutter. Try that in the USA...

apparantly the south of the USA is strictly religous - I'm told that some schools won't even teach an alternate idea of creation to the christian adam and eve stuff...
