At present, no one in my immediate vicinity (that being the Rolle College campus in Exmouth) is able to get a connection to the Orange network.

The signal meter on everyone's phones show that they do have a signal, but no one has a network connection.

Being unable to use my phone, I don't know if it's a fault with the transmitter covering us, or if the entire network (or a section of it) has gone down.

So, if you're on Orange, is your phone still working?

I just called from my PAYG orange phone to my contract one and back again.

Both fine.

Perhaps your local cell is down.

Oh well, it appears it's not as serious as I feared.

Bottom line however, is that I've now had 45 minutes of not being able to use my mobile phone and not knowing when it will come back on. And I feel decidedly uncomfortable about that. I never realised I was that dependent on it until now.

If you've got a strong signal, but can't get a connection, it's USUALLY the link back from the cell site towards the network exchange.

Not sure where Orange's exchange for South Devon is. Could be as far up as Bristol, like Vodafone's.

1 hour and 45 minutes, and it's still down :(

Bristol! Eek! Bang goes my plan to drive a few miles up the road in the hope that changing to another transmitter would help.

Oh well, in 6 years of being on Orange, this is the first time the network has failed on me (aside from the annual difficulty to call or text on the new year when the network can't handle all the traffic trying to go through it at once). Not bad I suppose.[/u]

Can't stand Orange, mainly for its slow introduction of new services.

I can't stand James Martin, mainly for his slow reply to threads, but more so by his general tittery nature.
