Is this not one of the greatest inventions ever? I'm sure we have all been somewhere, and a catchy tune comes on and you have no idea what it is.
Since learning about Shazam a month or so ago, it's certainly put my mind at rest many a time.
For those who don't know about this, simply dial 2580 (going down the middle numbers on your mobile keypad), hold your phone next to the sound source. Shazam automatically hangs up, and texts you the name of the song. Normal cost around 50p, and free if they cannot help.
Shazam
But does it call the songs CRACKING?rts wrote:Is this not one of the greatest inventions ever? I'm sure we have all been somewhere, and a catchy tune comes on and you have no idea what it is.

From what I understand, tracks have thier own "signature" waveforms. A bit like a fingerprint, every song has a unique audio image (imagine it was in a program like Cool Edit). The cleaver bit is that it pin-points a particular frequency that isn't affected by telephone transmission/bad quality speakers.nodnirG kraM wrote:Does anyone know exactly how Shazam works? If you have, say 5 seconds of regognisable audio, the software scans it's database to match it up and sends you a text when it's found it...
At least that's how I understand it works!
