Reports have come thorugh by CNN saying that there is a scam going around involving a mobile phone virus:

This only apply to owners of Sagem, Nokia, and Motorola phones.

If you recieve a phone call with the name "ACE", then immediately hang up.

Answering this call will delete/corrupt files on your phone AND SIM. This will make your phone unable to connect to the telephone network.

Therefore, (as it affects both the phone AND sim card) you will have to buy a new phone.

I've just searched on CNN.com and it's reporting nothing...

How exactly would a "call come through with the name ACE" unless you had a number with the name "ACE" stored in your phone?

This is a timewasting hoax that will no doubt result in tens of millions of unnecessary emails being fired round the planet.

I guess he's just trying to be helpful, I know Bank Managers who send out hoax virus warning emails to all their staff on a regular basis unaware that they're always pointless.

This happens often at work. With the very best intentions, people email warnings of potential scams to everyone in their address book, clogging up mail servers in the process.

Usually reputable news agencies (such as CNN or the BBC) will make real threats known to the public. If you receivve an email saying "CNN are reporting..." then it is prudent to check to see if in fact they are.

On this occassion they are not.
