Why is their such a similarity between American and British branding of products? or on the oposite side of the spectrum, Same names Redically different Logo?

Oppinions, other examples?
The similar logo thing is to do with the fact that both brands are owned by the same company. It is done when the company wants the brand link to be obvious, but when it is advantageous to use a particular name in a certain country (usually because it was a well-known brand before it was bought out - like Walkers).
People will buy Walkers crisps at home, then go for the packet of Lay's when they're on holiday, because they recognise the logo.
Examples:
E.g. Lay's, Walkers, etc. - Pepsico crisps
e.g. Wall's (ice cream), Ola, etc. - Unilever ice cream ("Heartbrand") -
