TV Forum needs help

I just want to give you all an insight into running TV Forum, and to see that your criticisms of me are a little unjustified.

I've been a moderator for just about four years (I was picked because I knew Asa before the forum even existed, and he quickly needed some help with the ever-expanding community), and to be honest, I've enjoyed it most of the time. It is a tough job to do, as there are so many members posting, that it becomes difficult to attend to everyone's needs as and when they demand it.

Now, the real problems have developed recently. When I first became a moderator, I had more time to devote to the site, which, unfortunately, has diminished somewhat over those four years. My effort, along with Asa, James' and MrTomServo's seemed to work for the most part. However, for the past few months, I've virtually being moderating it by myself. Sadly, Asa doesn't have the time to make regular visits, MrTomServo's buggered off and James chips in every now and then. Other than that, it's been up to me to do the bulk of the work. I don't think some of you realise the amount of time I've been putting into TVF of late. I've had to deal with a great deal of post reports (they DO get read), and quite frankly, time runs away with you. I can honestly say that I try my very best to please everyone, but it's just not possible. What infuriates me are comments like tvmercia's tonight -- he complained that a topic hadn't been moved by three hours after its posting. I actually went out tonight, and only had chance to deal with it after I came back. It isn't my fault that none of the other mods haven't sorted it out.

Then we come to the so-called "trolls". I'll admit...I'm a soft-touch. Anyway who's ever met me knows that I'm a nice person. I don't do nasty. For me, preventing someone from participating in something they want to is a personal crime. The so-called "blind eye" is only me trying to give people chances to prove themselves and fit into the community better. Eventually, if they don't get the message, I will ban them, but I don't see that as the first solution. I know winifred can be a little infuriating at times, but that's no reason to ban him. I'm finding it very difficult to deal with these people mostly by myself, and it's impossible for me to read every single thread every day. tvmercia's comment that trolls must cross my path in the BBC World thread is unfounded. I post it many more topics than that one, and I suggest that you open your eyes a little more.

I'm sorry to have rambled on with that, but I feel that I should give you an insight into the difficulties that I'm facing currently. Several times over the years, I've thought of resigning, and indeed, this moment is one of them. I thoroughly enjoy being a moderator, but if all I get is stick for the voluntary work I put in, then I'm not willing to do it. Contrary to some opinions, I don't get paid -- all the work I do here is completely voluntary. I think the least I can expect from the members is a little respect for what I do.

Rob,

We're NOT criticising you. We're saying that TVF needs at least 2 more mods to help you out with the running of the place!

You're the only one who's invested any proper time with moderating over the last few months and we apprieciate that. We're just saying, that you need some help! :D

Does that not prove that more/new mod's are needed to get TVF back on track?

Oh why couldn't she have been banned after midnight on THE DAY OF JOY?

Thanks, James. A little more mod support would be nice. Quite frankly, it's me versus 2,000 members at the moment. It's driving me insane!

I personally wouldn't like to be a TVF mod anymore, I think.

I don't have enough interest in that place anymore to go through every single thread.

MP247 is far more relaxed and fun as a contributor and moderator.

I personally would host a drinks reception for another mod! It would certainly help me out. It's up to Asa, though, as he's the site owner.

Obviously, but it's something worth thinking about, that or lessen the rules. TVF is very strict on some things, too many rules and not enough people to inforce them.

Dear Robert,

I do not undestand the reason why I have been banned form the site. It seems that I'm being picked on for no apparant reason for expressing my views. If you look at the Ten O'Clock News thread, you can see that other people have insulted me but they do not seem to have been banned. I feel this is very unfair.

Please would it be possible to lift my ban.

Regards,

Wini.
