Opening a Medion Laptop
It generally goes...
- Pull out everything you can like the battery, drives
- Screws out of the bottom
- Lift the keyboard out (if it wants to) and undo screws underneath that
- Probably remove the screen surround or the hinge surround
- Battle with many plastic clips to get the thing open, making sure the case isn't snagging on any peripherals like cdrom drive trays or pcmcia port buttons
Do it slowly and carefully
Good luck!

The main thing is that you protect the screen from smashing/scratching. Chances are you'll need it at all kinds of angles to work out how to get it apart, and they're fairly sturdy.marksi wrote:When I open it should it be upside down or the right way up (does that make sense?!?!) I think I may wait until my new PC arrives in a few weeks, then if I bugger it up I won't be PC-less!

Well... glad I didn't spend too much time pulling it to bits because I have now discovered that it's not the CMOS battery. When the computer starts up the time is initially absolutely perfectly correct - but one of the startup programs is altering the clock time by 4 mins. Very odd. So tonight when I get back from work I'll have to investigate that further. But thank you for your help Sput.
As to Medion's customer service - it's crap. I wanted to get a second PSU for my laptop (the connector is non-standard) and it took six months to get hold of one from them. You'll probably be able to get a battery off them too, but it does take persistence. At one time I was told their ordering computers were down. Well... these things happen, and I said I'd call back in an hour. "No, you'd be best leaving it at least a week" suggested the sales person...

Call them in a few weeks and check, as they lost all trace of my first order...nodnirG kraM wrote:Cheers Mr Marksi. I now have a battery on order, however due to distribution problems I am instructed to allow up to 16 weeks for delivery.marksi wrote:You'll probably be able to get a battery off them too, but it does take persistence.
Not long to go now....
