Capturing Video from a VHS tape
Can someone tell me what I can use to capture clips from a VHS Video Tape? Anything Dazzle branded please do not tell me about. Many thanks.

If you are starting with nothing then you need to find yourself an analogue capture card. I guess it depends what your budget is really.
I got a Matrox G450TV card for my PC from ebay. Payed about £70 quid for it and I love it. I can capture from VHS, live video and any other composite or s-video source. My card wasn't desiged to work with anything above Windows98, so I've had to do a lot of tweaking and fiddling.
I've also got Ulead Media Studio Pro which means I can capture clips to MPG2 live, and I find the quality great, even on my strained-to-breaking-point Pentium 3.
So, how much are you prepared to spend, and what pc have you got?

I've just had a wee look at the Dazzle website. Have you had problems with their external devices?
I've got Windows ME, but if its all the technical stuff, i'll ask my Uncle. At the most i want to spend £50, or try to find one on eBay.
My past Dazzle device (which was the DVC 80) I has nothing coming up on the screen, so I got told to download a driver, and that mucked up my display, so I got a refund.

The same idealogy is discussed in this thread:

For what it's worth, all a TV Capture Card is is a Video Capture Card with an integrated tuner. Apart from that there's not a whole lot of difference except you tune your TV capture card to see your VCR (like you do when you first set up the video) and turn to that channel when you want to record off of it.
