After the gutter that was the performance on Sunday night, what are 'Pollers thoughts on England's chances at Euro 2004?
I have this weird feeling that we will meet France again in the final. Our loss on Sunday night might do us the world of good - we know we are a good team, but we need the occasional shock to remind us that we need to play well (just like the many shocks we had before winning the Rugby World Cup lasy year).
Of course, use this thread to comment on any aspect of the tournie you find interesting.
I do find it disappointing that we are the only Home Nation there. I support Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic in all their games (as long as they are not playing the English of course), and it would have been great to have someone else from the islands here. Personally, I'd love the Scottish to have been here - fantastic supporters, friendly rivalry between us (the vast majority of the time), and of course, the possibility of meeting them in an important match.

Football is boring.
I got back from the local field today after playing 'cuppy'. We found that we couldnt be botherd to run and just walked to the ball instead. But shame on David Beckham, making an effort where us, the minority of football haters, cant make the effort to watch him (and the team) fail.

Lacklusture performance tonight but a good result. The Swiss, however, were complete bastards throughout.
Ironically now we need to cheer on France as if they win tonight, all we need on Monday is a draw!
I reckon we could make the final but face France again... that said I really don't think we're anywhere good enough to make the final. I feel that Monday will be judgment day, if you know what I mean - to see whether or not it was a fluke.
Otherwise very dissapointed once again with behaviour off the pitch - we didn't have the hooliganism problem at the last World Cup due to the fact a plane ticket to Japan/South Korea was expensive and it atttracted a, well, better class of person than the hooligans are, as a result.
I don't agree with the smashing up pubs that has been going on - I think that UEFA and FIFA need to sit down and sort out this problem together... we've managed to sort out the hooliganism at club level to an extent, and it interests me that it can't be controlled at national level.
That said, it's happened here with people who've seen it on TV then decided to go out and smash up places - thankfully I'm yet to see it happen in Coventry...

Ugghh...Sky News have just spent the best part of a whole hour talking about sodding football. If I want sport, I'll bloody well tune into Sky Sports News.
I hate football, and I have no shame in saying that. Many times people say to me "what team do you support?" and I reply with "I can't stand football, I really can't". They then look at me like I've just been convicted of shagging a 5-year old!
England should be ashamed of its behavior. Is it any wonder that England don't get chosen to host international sporting events? Not only does England have not have the facilities (hence the FA Cup being played in Cardiff FFS!) to host such events, but the behavior of natives is appalling.

There hasn't been any violence around the grounds. It's the English people meeting in Portugal for some trouble.
Not really much to do with the football, it's a cultural thing. Take a look at any major town on a Saturday night at 2am. The football just gives them an excuse to get together.

What more can I say, but YAY!
I really hope that the Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish, Irish, Channel Islanders and the Manx will support us during the tournie as the island's sole representatives.
C'mon England. C'mon British Islands!

Well done England, could go all the way after the three matches so far. Wouldn't mind going all the way with that Rooney come to think of it!

Oh come on, that France game was diabolical.
As were we for the best part of 35 minutes tonight. We should have won against France.
So it all rests on the game against Portugal on Thursday night. Can England do what the rugby team did, and beat them in their own backyard? Can we knock out the host nation?
With the correct frame of mind there's no reason why we can't win this tournament... but we need the correct attitude or we will get nowhere.
