I spent all last Thursday and Friday folding up ballot papers and putting them in envelopes (along with Envelopes A and B and the Declaration of Identity, of course). And next Monday and Tuesday I'll be spending all day opening them back up again. I'm seeing envelopes, papers, the register of electors and perforated counterfoils in my sleep now.
And next Thursday I have to get up at 4.30am to go and be a clerk at a polling station as well. God. And there's a tube strike that day. And I can't go home until 10.30pm.

Well I completed my postal vote today, (after it was forwarded to me from home to uni). As it's Stockport, we are on our 2nd card in an envelope clearly marked REPLACEMENT POLLING CARD just incase people don't know why they've got another. It also explains that you have to vote again if you've already sent polling card mk1! and if you've not completed mk1 you still need to send it to the council with INCORRECT written across the envelope.
The cards were interesting, the european one being on white paper (had "this polling card is white" written across the top incase you didn't know) and the locals on grey paper (had 'grey' written at the top). There was also no explanation in the instruction sheet as to why we had to vote for 3 people in the local elections, we've had nothing other than the LibDem "Focus" leaflet telling us why. The council instructions say "vote for no more than 3 candidates".
Overall I think postal voting is a good idea, I wouldn't have voted this time due to not being at home, and my dad wouldn't as he's normally too busy. Stockport did have 'advice and returns centres' which were basically Polling Stations which had someone there who'd varify you on the declaration and explain everything you needed to do. They even had polling booths so you could vote in confidence!!!

Well I'm voting on Thursday, my first time infact. Proudly displaying my party's poster in the window. Been active with the party for several years now, and refreshingly, am not one of those sheep who only vote for a party cos Mother and Father vote that way.
I think postal voting takes away half the fun - but I also see it's benefits for people who have difficulty making it to a polling station. So I'm in favour of having both options, but an all postal vote system is, in my opinion, absurd and anti-democratic.

- BADGER BADGER!I haven't been yet. I shoudl have voted by post but didn't get back from Cambridge until late Monday, and didn't get anyone to confirm my identity unil yesterday. I have until 10pm anyway.
I think we should scrap this postal voting thing. It's probably taking me more time and effort to read the papers, find someone to confirm my identity, make my vote, work out what to put in which envelopes and deliver it all, than it would have to go to a polling station.
