What do you think of Townies/Neds/Charvas.

Anonymous

When I was younger (10) I got beat up for no reason by a group of townies in my area (But moveed since then) But Neds/Towines/Charvas have a bad reputation for Beating Up in groups Swearing, Bad English and getting in Trouble with the Police ( Not All) and if the go to jail they are still the same.

So any comments or views

Andre. :)

In Northern slang, Scally. A stupid person who has a reputation for loitering, swearing, drinking, smoking, causing violence and likely to see them in Shell suits and Burberry/NYY baseball caps. Usually seen at Night in Town Centres.

I personally can't abide them, doesn't help as Warrington has loads of them.

Skating isnt a crime. Spelling 'Skate' with an '8' should be.

This is like the fourth thread on this, and, I never thogught you could, but to generalise them - theyre all wankers, the spitting image of the person standing next to them. You know, her, with the hoopy earings...

edit... CraigF reminded me:

They're also very boring... have you heard theyre convorsations ?

Indeed they aren't.

However in the more "poorer" parts of normally salubrious suburbia, you do get an infestation of them. Hooped earrings, keen Argos shoppers, 300 carat gold rings on every finger and hideous cars that have been modded to hell and back with 3000 watt subwoofer systems in the boot with the music on full blast (typically crappy drum 'n' bass or some similar shite).

Other typical charateristics are having a cellular telephone pretty much glued to their ear all the time, a fag in their hands and a complete inability to speak English in an erudite and coherent manner.

Not very often I agree with you Cheese Head, but I will on this occasion. I completely hate people writing in text speak when they are not on a cellular telephone.

By the way, it's Skaters, not "Sk8ers", Barrett. You've been listening to too much Avril Lavigne. Also writing in text message speak is a sign of turning into a townie/ned/charver/ken. ;)

What is it with the hate between skaters/grungers/goths and townies/neds/charvers/kens? Why are they so at each other's throats? :?

First three you mention are all actually different, whilst the rest of them you can describe with no hesitation. You could even pick a name like "Leah Lara" to suit your imaginary chav.

These Chavs from my old school came up to us whilst a friend of mine was looking in JJB sports (I cant go in there without getting a dodgy look) and theyre like

"So, you two going out"
"No. Pissoff."
"Why?"
"I dont know you, if I did, I probably wouldnt like you"
"All I said wa..."
"Your about to say something I dont care about, so shutup" [Exeunt

Maybe a bit mean on my part, but he deserves it for walking around looking like my arse if it had gangreen.

The differences - a pictorial guide:

Grunge was started by the almighty Nirvana, the main look being:

Goth is an image that can be subtle or get quite dark. I dont know if any of you have seen some over the top goths, I quite admire them for putting so much effort in and alot of them look quite good.

Skaters, these are like glorified townies, nicer to be with, but theyre just glorified townies. They have the usual shirt jeans studded belt, ability to see one's boxer shorts, and any brand of "skater" trainers.
