now my actual TV has a small red spot where the standby light reflected in it (the on/off switch is bust) for about 2 years.
On the PC front though, think about the start button, shouldn't that be burned into every screen if they weren't burn-proof?
Screensavers
You're confusing screen burn with gaussing of the display. Gaussing can cause certain elements of the shadow mask to be lit up in defiance of what the eletron guns are fireing. This ususally manifests itself as patterning on what should be solid areas of colour rather than a noticeable burn in. Degasussing a monitor (which, with a degaussing coil fitted to most monitors)is accomplished each time a monitor is turned of and on, and can often be deformed on demnand form the monitor's menu.I also thought that if they did burn, turning them off and then back on again fixed them?
Burning the shadow mask however, so that it allows an area of the display to ibecome visible when a video signal is not transmitted, is quite another.
