Comet Logo

Has anyone seen a new Comet advert (I've only seen it twice so I'm just assuming it's new) in which the normal white on red Comet logo is used throughout, and at the end the advert guy's car is shown in front of the Comet Store.

However, it's no normal Comet store. It has a black on yellow logo in a rounded font (looks a bit like Arial Rounded if I remember correctly) and a comet-type swipe above the text. Has anyone else noticed it?

Is it a new look for the company which has been released onto some stores before the websites and adverts (presumably to avoid confusion to users of pre-rebranded stores), or is it an old logo which is still on some stores. If so then it's rather silly for Comet to film their latest advert in front of an old look store.

Anyway, anyone know what's going on? TY.

Looks like they're in the middle of a rebrand.

That logo's been on the new Lincoln store since they started builing it in the middle of last year, just a few hundred yards away from the old store which had the old logo.

Actually, that "new" logo with the comet strike above it has been used on some stores in the North of England for quite some time now.... at least 2 years.

Most stores in Newcastle use it, and I've seen it in various other parts of the North. Seems that the original logo is being used mainly in the South for some reason.

I remember seeing this logo a couple of years ago, but the adverts seem to be weird about as they're still using the classic logo.

Though the one in Warrington has been the same since 1984 and hasn't changed, so it's still pretty shite inside.

The new store in Truro which opened in 2002 to replace the old cramped one has the new logo. Perhaps it's experimental, or as was suggested that so few stores use it that they're holding off on officially adopting it until more stores have it outside?

The store in Plymouth (which also has to be a candidate for 'most grotty looking Comet store in the country', looking like something out of the 70's inside and out, and being adorned by a smattering of council towerblocks) still has the REALLY old logo with the red 'flashes' on the white lettering.

The Fosse Park one in Leicester has the new logo - about 3 or 4 years ago the building was totally gutted, the ceiling heightened and I think the premises enlarged and everything was kitted out in the new style.

The new look store is totally unrecognisable from the old one though.

It is very strange. They have taken a very long time to make changes. As mentioned above the Fosse Park store in Leicester has had the new colour scheme and logo for a couple of years, but still so many other stores/website don't use the new colour scheme or logo.
No idea what is taking them so long. When Focus Do It All, and Great Mills merged, the exGM stores were renamed to Focus a few months after the takeover. and most exFDIA stores the following febuary. Inside they may be fairly different (although a refit program is going round), but at least the stores looked part of one company.

I'm not convinced about the new logo, the old with the new colour scheme looks better, but anyway.

It is very weird with that, they took no time when Focus and Do It All merged, as they quickly became Focus Do It All. Another one is that recently (well only March) Morrisons was given the go ahead to take over Safeway and they have wasted no time (As an employee for Morrisons) as they have started to advertise saying that Safeway will be disappearing and Safeway store managers would be looking at how Morrisons is being ran to adopt the style and from what I have heard the rebrand won't be taking that long either, considering that there are loads of Safeway stores compared to the amount Morrisons stores.

Well, that's a very strange way of working. You'd think they'd want to redesign all of the stores as quickly as possible as to aviod confusion. Instead, they've created even more confusion by keeping the same logo on their Adverts and Website, and as someone said before (sorry for not naming names), their promotional leaflets.

----------

Are all Safeway stores being rebranded as Morrisons then? I heard they were only doing the larger/smaller (can't actually remember which it was ;) ) stores and leaving the rest as Safeway.

----------

When they refurbished our local Safeway store they did a piss-poor job. Sure, they gave it a quick paint job (think orange bar around the top of the store, creme for the rest painted over the old tiles) and replaced the squiggly signature-style signs (Fruit and Veg, etc...) with the curved ones in Bradley Hand ITC. (If anyone has a copy of the old font, I'd much appreciate it). They also painted about 50% of the store in new Safeway Green (looks quite nice, shame they didn't do all of it) and put some Green Apple/Cabbage/Etc Signs in front of the windows. Unfortunately a load of those have now fallen off.

The rest of the store stayed pretty much identical apart from the odd apple in a couple of places. The Petrol Station stayed exactly as it was before & the signs on the front of the store are still in the old style (including the old logo on the top of the store). The tall sign next to the Petrol Station (the one with the list of prices and details of what's inside the store) still claims we have a Creche too, which we no longer do. So yeah, that was a half hearted job, which is a shame as the new Safeway style is very attractive.

----------

Focus and Do-It-All did a great job refurbishing their stores to the Focus Do-It-All look. That was a fantastic look too, it's just a shame they had to all go back to Focus. The logo is nowhere near as nice and all the signs in our store are just Focus logos stuck over the old Focus Do-It-All logos, where as before everything had been replaced and the store made unrecognisable.

Do you know if that store used to contain a red and white sign and was replaced with the old style yellow and black one? If so, that's a very bizare way of working, especialy as it's in the new colours but old logo.
